SuperGroup sales soared 15.3% over its fourth quarter and retail like-for-likes advanced 5% as it prepares to start a store opening spree.

Total sales increased to £86.8m over the 13 weeks to April 28, while retail revenue jumped 10.9% to £43.8m.

For the year, SuperGroup’s total sales surged 14.7% to £360.1m, retail sales leaped 18.3% and like-for-likes rose 6.9%.

SuperGroup chief executive Julian Dunkerton said he was pleased with the performance especially given the extended period of cold weather that made the market “challenging”.

He said: “We have delivered solid sales and profit growth this year at the same time as enhancing financial and operational processes. In addition we have made significant progress with developing our product ranges, especially the improvements in womenswear styling.”

“The investments in IT and logistics will continue to secure and strengthen the business and, with further developments in our ranges planned, I am encouraged by the group’s prospects.”

The retailer, which opened 28,000 sq ft over the quarter including its 16,000 sq ft northern flagship in Trinity Leeds and a store in Paris, said it would hit the expansion trail in its next financial year.

Dunkerton said: “After a year of consolidation, financial year 2014 will see the group start to move back towards historic levels of space growth as it develops its European presence.”

SuperGroup said it was “well placed” to deliver underlying pre-tax profit in line with market expectations of between £49.5m to £53m.
