Nordstrom Inc is a luxury US fashion retailer headquartered in Seattle. The business was founded as a shoe store in the early 1900s by Swedish emigrant John W. Nordstrom, who reportedly came to Seattle with $5 in his pocket. Officially renamed Nordstrom Inc, the retailer went public in 1971.
The group operates more than 115 full-line Nordstrom stores and 250 or so Nordstrom Rack clearance outlets, with dedicated ecommerce sites for both.
It has enhanced its online offer with the acquisition of flash Sale site HauteLook in 2011 and personalised clothing service Trunk Club in 2014. In 2020, 30% of group sales are digital, with more than 800 million unique visitors to its sites each year.
As well as stocking leading brands, Nordstrom has a total of 50 private-label brands, all designed in house by an internal Nordstrom design team.
