John Lewis is to pilot a convenience store format with click-and-collect facilities inside London’s St Pancras train station.
The 3,000 sq ft unit, due to open this autumn, will be the retailer’s first small convenience-style store. Shoppers will be able to order any item from the John Lewis etail site for collection in the store.
It will also offer a selected range of products in the store, including home and fashion accessories, gifts and electronics.
John Lewis retail director Andrew Murphy said: “In the battleground of convenience, we are announcing a new way for commuters to shop with us.
“Customers spend a huge amount of time commuting, and our research shows that making life easier and shopping more convenient is their top priority. John Lewis is currently celebrating its 150th anniversary. Whilst we are looking back at our history we are also focussed on how Britain will shop in the future and how we need to innovate to stay at the forefront of omni channel retailing.”
The retailer has hinted that if the pilot is successful it might consider similar roll outs in transport locations.
