Hamleys has revealed the toys it is banking on for festive success this Christmas, ranging from board games to virtual reality headsets.

With 80 days to go until Christmas, the retailer unveiled a list that also includes a caterpillar designed to teach children about coding.

The retailer has focused on tech-enabled toys that encourage social interaction, including a Kidizoom Smart Watch that gives children exercise tasks and teaches them to tell the time.

Prices of Hamleys’ top 10 toys range from £15 for a virtual reality viewer that can be integrated with a Star Wars mobile app, to £90 for a Nerf Mega Mastodon gun, which can fire off 24 darts at speed.

The retailer has two board games on its top 10 list this year and is also anticipating cashing in on franchises with a Star Wars Lego set and a Troll character from the upcoming film.

While the retailer has a strong showing of tech-enabled toys on its list this year, buyer Natalie Ann Riley told Retail Week that its top-selling toy every Christmas is the old-fashioned teddy bear.

Good to know that in the rapidly evolving retail sector, some things never change.
