Checks made on PowerHouse warranty deals

Warranty schemes provided by electricals retailer PowerHouse are being investigated by its administrative receivers.

The majority of PowerHouse's offers, including cash-back schemes, remain valid because they are backed by insurance or funds held by a third party.

The only schemes that no longer have funds available to cover repairs are the Extracare and Easycare warranties purchased from July 13 to August 20 2003, and all Extracare warranties purchased from June 1997 to June 25 2000.

Administrative receiver Deloitte & Touche is looking at ways to minimise potential losses to customers who bought uncovered warranties.
