Plans afoot to secure stock orders from Harrods
Workers from Burberry's troubled Treorchy factory are meeting Harrods boss Mohamed Fayed on the steps of the High Court today.

The group of 30 workers will discuss plans with Al Fayed over lunch, in which the department store could place some of its stock orders with the soon-to-be redundant Welsh factory in future.

Last week, Burberry gave staff at the south Wales factory loyalty bonuses and allocated£1.5 million to be donated over 10 years into a trust fund. The offer amounts to a multimillion-pound improvement on the initial settlement. The deal also means that the factory, which Burberry has donated to the workforce, will be left intact.

The GMB has led an extensive campaign to save the welsh site and has secured an additional four months' operating time for the factory, as well as enhanced redundancy packages.

The workers - possibly as a co-operative - hope to secure enough orders from Harrods and other retailers to keep between 30 and 70 employees in work. Under Burberry, the factory employed more than 300 workers.
