Budgens announced last week that it will link up with Coventry-based PCMS for development of its Chip and PIN-enabled electronic point of sale system.
The deal covers the build and deployment of systems at all 225 Budgens stores.
'This will help our store managers perform a front-of-house function, (enabling them to) focus on value-added services and bringing an extra dimension to our offer,' said Budgens IT director Garry Barr.
The system incorporates Java code running on the Linux open-source operating system, and will now enter an initial pilot phase.
