BRC to consider code of practice

Retailers have asked the British Retail Consortium to consider putting together a code of good practice to govern like-for-like sales reporting.

The BRC will consider the issue at its May board meeting. Soundings taken from store groups showed retailers thought the BRC the most appropriate authority to develop an industry standard.

'We're going to produce a definition of how like-for-like sales will be used in our monthly Retail Sales Monitor,' said a spokesman. 'We're waiting to see whether it's a matter of tweaking or whether it's (going to be) a major piece of work.'
