Scottish active sports fashion retailer Bite wants to double its store portfolio within two years and push south of the border.

Bite founder and managing director Mark McGowan wants to open five stores this year. He said: “We’ve got a growth appetite. We’re in a niche market, but now we’re taking it to the mid-market. There’s no point in opening one store in England – our plan is to open 10 in the North and also to look at making acquisitions.”

The retailer revealed its new larger-format store in October at the Braehead shopping centre in Glasgow. It is also moving into a larger unit at the Gyle centre in Edinburgh.

The larger-format store includes a department for the brand Vans. Bite has four stores in Scotland and will open a further shop in Aberdeen, also featuring a Vans department.
