Like-for-like sales figures for the week ending March 6, 2011

Non-Fashion -2.4% up
Fashion -3.5% up
Homewares +0.7% up
Non-store +28% up


Non-fashion had a mixed week but trends were generally negative. The timing difference of Mother’s Day had a significant influence.


Up against tough prior year comparisons, the majority of fashion retailers struggled to reach positive territory. Purchases were down in most categories.


Homewares marginally grew, primarily due to stronger demand for furniture and textiles. Mid-season discounting also helped encourage demand.

Non-store (mail order, online)

The recent pattern of slower growth through non-store channels continued, largely mirroring the trends witnessed on the high street.
