BDO High Street Sales Tracker

Like-for-like sales figures for the week ending Sunday, February 28, 2010

Non-Fashion +4.6% up
Fashion +3.3% up
Homewares +12.8% up
Non-store +52.7% up

  • Driven by strong demand for outdoor goods and luxury, non-fashion fared well. Gifting and health and beauty underperformed, reflecting a slow build-up to Mother’s Day

  • Fashion sales continued to advance, but momentum slowed, not helped by bad weather. Formalwear outperformed, as did footwear, while youth ranges did well

  • Big-ticket furniture purchases surged, while textiles and home accessories also performed strongly

  • For a second week in a row, sales made through non-store channels advanced strongly, aided by the miserable weather, which discouraged high street trips
