Asda has cut its national fuel prices this morning in a move that is likely to spark a fresh petrol price war among the grocers.

Asda has reduced the prices across its 171 filling stations to 106.9p for unleaded and 118.9p on diesel.

Asda trading director Darren Blackhurst said: “Unlike our rivals, we don't hide behind local pricing. Everyone across the UK benefits when we drop the price of fuel.

“Once again we are calling on other retailers to follow our lead and give drivers a fair deal at the pumps, not just those that live near an Asda.”

Yesterday Morrisons cut 3p off the price of petrol to 107.7p and 119.2p for diesel.
