Grocer to pay £80,000
Asda has been fined nearly£80,000 by magistrates for selling out-of-date food, including lamb chops 31 days past their use-by date.

Trading standards officers who visited stores in Newport and Cwmbran, South Wales, bought 59 items that were out of date.

Torfaen councillor Glyn Caron, executive member for planning and public protection, said: 'This case shows with solid evidence that our Torfaen trading standards team will prosecute businesses that are breaking the law on food safety. It does not matter how big or small the business, if the evidence is there, we will prosecute to make sure the public are protected when purchasing food.'
