Argos brings C&A skiwear back to UK

Argos Additions has brought C&A skiwear back to the UK, and the collection has smashed sales expectations within its first two months.

The catalogue business - now owned by Shop Direct, following Littlewoods' GUS home shopping acquisition - is offering 50 C&A skiwear lines across men's, women's and children's ranges.

The agreement to sell C&A skiwear followed the success Argos Additions had with the C&A womenswear brand, Clockhouse, which it started selling last year.

Shop Direct group trading manager for fashion Stuart Ailion said: 'When C&A exited the UK it had a 35 per cent share of the skiwear market. Although Marks & Spencer, Next and Asda are playing with it a bit, no one has really replaced them (C&A) at the value end. We have filled the gap and there is huge potential for us with the C&A range.'

Following its recent success with the range, Ailion said ShopDirect plans to increase the number of its winter lines on offer for 2004/05.
