US fashion chain American Eagle Outfitters will debut in the UK in London and has plans to open up to 100 stores in the country.

The retailer, which is listed on the New York stock exchange and is worth $2.9bn (£1.3bn), has more than 1,000 stores in the US and Canada.

American Eagle Outfitters targets 15 to 25-year-olds and ships to the UK via its www.ae.com website. Men’s slogan T-shirts retail at £10 to £12, while women’s dresses are about £30.

American Eagle is the latest in a string of overseas retailers to grace UK shores where US young fashion chains are also expanding. Urban Outfitters-owned Anthropolgie and Abercrombie & Fitch’s Hollister as well as fast fashion chain Forever 21 have all set their sights on expansion in the UK.

According to the Independent on Sunday American Eagle Outfitters has hired UK property agent Harper Dennis Hobbs to look at opportunities for stores in central London.
