Allied Carpets chief operating officer Jean Wattel has resigned from the carpet retailer weeks after restructuring specialist Hilco bought the company.

It is unclear if Mattel, who is still at the 218-store retailer, has another job to go to, according to The Independent.

His departure comes as Hilco finalises a turnaround plan to take the business forward. It is thought a substantial number of stores will be shed.

This week it emerged Hilco is the lead investor in Allied Carpets behind offshore fund Sigma Capital Investments, which bought the UK’s second-largest floor coverings retailer in March.

Allied Carpets and Hilco declined to comment.
