Amazon has unveiled a 600,000 sq ft new head office in Shoreditch, marking its third headquarters in London.

The 15-storey office will be used by employees from a variety of the online giant’s corporate departments, including its 900-strong research and development team.

Amazon unveiled plans to double the size of this team from 450 this week to drive developments in its Prime Video service.

The retailer expanded the size of the office from the originally planned 431,00 sq ft to accommodate the growth in its research and development department.

Employees currently working at the online retailer’s London Development Centre will be relocated to it’s new head office as part of this expansion.

UK boss Doug Gurr said the new headquarters would offer Amazon the “magical ability to bring together passionate and intelligent people from all around our business”.

He added that he was confident the retailer’s latest head office would provide “a genuine opportunity to drive an even faster pace of invention and innovation”.

The etail giant’s latest London headquarters boasts a large auditorium for in-house events, a variety of cafés and restaurants and a rotating selection of artwork provided by local artists.
