Kurt Salmon Digital fought off tough competition to be crowned winner of the Retail Week Tech Sprint in association with On the Dot.

After spending 24 hours developing a delivery solution during Retail Week Live, the team caught the judges eye with its Speedly app, which enables customers to have an order shipped from a store, or from peer-to-peer, within hours.

The app includes a QR code that the customer can scan to schedule a delivery to their house directly from their phone within seconds.

Tech Sprint head judge Martin Newman, chief executive of Practicology, praised the app for “disrupting the fulfilment proposition in the UK and putting the customer in control”.

He added: “It’s an idea that improves the joined-up customer experience and could be taken to the market from tomorrow.”

The Tech Sprint asked teams of hackers to create a solution that integrates convenient delivery into consumers’ everyday lives over a 24-hour period.

Kurt Salmon Digital beat four other teams to take the top spot. Teams from Flubit and Asos were runners up.

Flubit’s Anything Anytime Anywhere app enables the consumer access to 50 million discounted products in the UK, while Asos’ Marketplace Delivered Today solution for mobile “brings the best products direct from Asos’ local boutiques, delivered in hours not days”.
