SuperGroup has appointed former Asda customer director Jon Wragg as its new ecommerce boss, replacing Chris Griffin, Retail Week has learned.

Wragg, who had been at Asda since 2006, stood down from his role late last month, Retail-week.com revealed last week.

Wragg took on the role of Asda customer director in December last year after a reshuffle and it is understood he left in order to return to a multichannel role.

He was previously multichannel director at Asda, where he was also commercial director and global sourcing and development director at George during his eight year tenure.

Wragg was viewed as pivotal in developing Asda’s multichannel business.

Ecommerce is seen as a big opportunity for SuperGroup, particularly overseas where its trendy brand Superdry is gaining in popularity.

Online sales of Superdry jumped 24% in the first half and it is now sold more than 100 countries. It has recently launched websites in Switzerland, Canada, Spain and Italy.

Wragg will replace SuperGroup ecommerce director Chris Griffin who has been at the retailer for over four years. It is thought that Griffin indicated his desire to stand down to explore new opportunities some time ago.

Griffin will stay at the retailer to hand over to Wragg who it is understood will take up his new role at the end of April.
