Urban Outfitters’ concept store Space Ninety 8 uses alternative store design to fit in with its faded industrial setting in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn’s Williamsburg is the current must-visit for those seeking inspiration when in the Big Apple.

For a while it was a brand-free zone but they are now moving in wholesale, adopting different names in order that the beard-and-short-trouser brigade may frequent their stores. Among them is Space Ninety 8, an Urban Outfitters concept store.

Opened earlier this year, this multi-floor space features everything from an art installation comprising wooden poles suspended from the ceiling to a restaurant called The Gorbals – an offshoot of an LA eaterie.

From the outside it hits the spot. Red brick and metal fire escape ladders strike an appropriately faded industrial look.

It is certainly an outpost of a very substantial retailer, but it fits perfectly with its surroundings and will not offend the delicate sensibilities of the fashionable types who parade the streets of this area.
