Debenhams has taken inspiration from supermarket displays for its Oxford Street flagship store’s windows.

The supermarket has come to Debenhams at its Oxford Street flagship in London, with each of the windows on its long frontage having been turned into a colour-coded supermarket scene.

Ranging from a ‘Blue Rinse’ window, complete with ‘Debs’ packets of washing powder to a ‘Greens’ window featuring a backdrop with jars of pickled gherkins, the scheme is the most notable since the department store completed its store overhaul at the end of 2013, if the number of cameras being raised to take pictures by passers-by is any indication

The windows bring to the mainstream a trend in using supermarkets as inspiration for displays that has been used by both Liberty and Chanel in the last year.

Liberty created supermarket vignettes for its windows in July 2013, while this year Chanel transformed one of its catwalk shows into a luxury supermarket complete with aisles of products.
