Boots has been forced to change the price of two of its own-brand products after being accused of “sexist pricing”.

A petition on the website Change.org flagged that the pharmacy chain was selling eye cream for women at £9.99, but the equivalent product for men at £7.29.

Eight women’s razors were being offered at £2.29, while a pack of 10 for men were £1.49.

The petition, which has attracted more than 42,000 signatures, urged Boots boss Simon Roberts to review the pricing policy.

In a statement, Boots said it did not operate a system that “discriminated against women” and is “surprised and disappointed” to see the examples highlighted.

It added: “We immediately conducted a review on all Boots own-brand and proprietary ranges to better understand the cited examples.

“This review has reassured us that for Boots own brands the two reported examples, Boots disposable razors and Botanics eye roll on, are indeed exceptional cases which do not completely meet our principles and we are taking action to correct these prices.”

Earlier this week, Boots revealed a second round of job cuts in the space of seven months. The retailer, part of Walgreens Boots Alliance, is removing up to 350 assistant store manager roles as part of ongoing cost-cutting measures.

Last June, Boots said it was cutting 700 back office staff as it aims to up invesment in its omnichannel offer.
