Fashion giant Inditex opened the first UK store for its womenswear brand Stradivarius today at Westfield Stratford.

Stradivarius is targeted at 20 to 35 year old women and is cheaper and more trend-led than sister brand Zara.  The offer spans fashion, accessories and footwear. Inditex is not carrying out any marketing activities to promote Stradivarius’ debut and the store had a low key opening.

An Inditex spokeswoman said it was looking for further locations for Stradivarius but would not expand in the UK aggressively.

The 4,250 sq ft Westfield Stratford store has a “vintage yet feminine” environment, according to the retailer. The store launch follows its UK online debut last October.

The UK is Stradivarius’ 60th market. It has 877 stores worldwide and sales surpassed €1bn (£800m) last year. Stradivarius targets stores between 3,700 to 6,500 sq ft in prime locations.

Stradivarius is the sixth Inditex brand to launch in the UK, joining Zara, Zara Home, Pull & Bear, Massimo Dutti and Bershka.

Underwear brand Oysho and premium brand Uterqüe are the only Inditex brands not to have a UK presence.
