As John Lewis celebrates 150 years since the first store opened on London’s Oxford Street, Retail Week dips into the archives.

John Spedan Lewis founded the John Lewis Parnership model in 1914 at the retailer’s Peter Jones store. Filmed in the water garden at Longstock in the early 1960s, Lewis explains the benefits of the model in a film intended to inspire future partners.
