Young fashion retailers are branching out into the beauty market with own-brand products to sell alongside their clothing ranges.

Topshop will launch its beauty range in May with a fashionable make-up offer.

The range has been created by Topshop designer Lizzie Dawson and products such as nail varnishes are inspired by fashion rather than make-up trends.

The first collection will consist of 97 products and elements will be alternated on a seasonal basis.

Fashion giant H&M will also extend its beauty offer this month, when it will introduce a range of everyday essentials including shower gels and moisturisers. The entire offer will use natural and organic ingredients.

H&M head of design Ann-Sofie Johansson said: “It felt like a natural step, since we’ve worked with organic cotton garments for a

few seasons now. There’s also a strong demand from our customers for organics.”
