What was your first job in retailing?

Starting Navabi five years ago. With fresh eyes we did not abide by industry standards and created a company that is celebrating curvy women.

Which retail company do you admire most and why?

Amazon, as it has followed an unconventional path of being 100% customer-focused, revolutionising retailing.

What is the trait you least like in yourself and why?

I believe once people know what they love to do, they can become the best in the world at it. These expectations can be scary for some.

Who have you learnt most from in your retail career?

My partner Bahman, as we have spent countless hours philosophising and strategising about retail and ecommerce.

What advice would you give someone starting out in retail?

Know your customers and focus on them.

What keeps you awake at night?

At the end of the day I usually read through our customer feedback, which inspires me to think of how I can help the company to improve.

What’s the most satisfying part of your job?

Working with bright and motivated people, seeing how young talent grows and becomes successful, and helping them to become happy in their profession.

What’s your proudest achievement?

I have helped build a great company by listening and anticipating customer needs while helping colleagues find a meaningful purpose.

What job would you have done if you hadn’t become a retailer?

I am an entrepreneur who happens to work in retail. My goal is to build the greatest company I could ever build.

What’s your favourite shop and why?

Mr Porter. It doesn’t just sell clothes but offers a whole lifestyle experience.

What was your last purchase?

The book First, Break All The Rules, bought on Amazon.
