As if being a director of a retailer can’t be a tough ask, here’s another challenge that will be equally rewarding.

I am delighted to announce the inaugural Directors’ Commando Challenge.

This is a unique opportunity for the serious fitness enthusiasts amongst you to pit yourself against one of the toughest endurance tests in the world at the Commando Training Centre at Lympstone on Friday June 5.

In aid of a good cause, The C Group (www.thecgroup.org), this is a unique challenge delivered by a unique Charity.

The C Group is The Royal Marines Charity with the remit to help Royal Marines both injured and others in need to make the transition to civilian life.

The Royal Marine Commandos are the UK’s elite fighting force and although they form only 4% of Britain’s total military capability they provide 43% of frontline ‘badged’ special forces.

They are the UK’s ‘frontline’ troops and as a result suffer disproportionate casualties for their size (in Afghanistan they sustained nearly 20% of all British casualties).

The C Group’s vision is to create a network connecting business, society and Marines in need to create a better future.

How you can you help

This is a one-off opportunity with very limited spaces for directors and teams to pit themselves against the Commando Assault Course and to raise funds and awareness for The C Group.

Participants will require a relatively high level of general fitness and will receive advice on training and preparation for the event, which we expect to be highly competitive.

Retail Week is very kindly supporting the event and we hope editor in chief Chris Brook-Carter will be taking part.

Would you like to take participate?

Could you challenge your directors/colleagues to take part?

Could you, and would you, provide support in any other way?

The C Group is a very small charity with only three full time employees.

Thanks to the generosity of Barracuda Search who through its sponsorship of the event are underwriting all costs, every single penny raised will go direct to the charity to supporting Royal Marines in need only.

Accordingly there is no administration fee, only a commitment to raise a minimum of £1,000 sponsorship.
