Asda launches online recruitment drive
Asda has kicked off a drive to tempt staff to its stores with the launch of a £100,000 online recruitment campaign.
The supermarket retailer has invested in two web sites, one to bring new recruits into Asda stores and another aimed specifically at its fashion label, George.
One of the key aims of the campaign is to attract more university leavers to its graduate training scheme, which has a starting salary of£23,000 and includes benefits such as a 10 per cent discount on Asda shopping.
The move to bring more staff into the George arm of the business is part of Asda’s plans to ramp up its fashion presence.
It recently revamped the brand’s logo and is on a drive to target more AB customers in an effort to become the UK’s largest clothing retailer by volume by 2011.
Asda resourcing manager Claire Fuller said: “Both new sites now help to communicate the unique culture of the Asda brand, meaning applicants can genuinely see whether working at Asda is right for them.
“Applications to the George business, based in Leicestershire, doubled last week through the trial phase of the site. Most applicants were from the fashion capital, London, however we were amazed to see that there were applications from across the world.”

That is a huge amount of money to spend on online recruitment. You have mentioned that they are launching 2 new web sites but I wonder what propotion of this budget is spent on applicant attraction techniques and talent management systems?

The project included the construction of a bespoke online assessment system with full candidate tracking functionality.
