WHSmith chief executive Kate Swann is considering a £50 million bid for stationery chain Paperchase, according to The Sunday Telegraph.
Borders, the US owner of Paperchase, put the business up for sale following a strategic review.
Jaeger chairman Harold Tillman has asked advisors to look at his options for selling his stake in the fashion chain. The Sunday Times reported that his decision comes after approaches from potential buyers.
Asda may cut about 450 jobs following a re-shuffle of its clothing brand George, according to The Mail on Sunday. The supermarket chain plans to change to a regional system based around three warehouses, saying its fourth warehouse at Ince near Wigan is "too small" for its plans.
The Mail on Sunday also reported that Elaine McPherson, former chief executive of MK One, has bought value fashion chain Ethel Austin out of administration. The sale of the Liverpool-based company was completed on Friday night for a sum thought to be up to £10 million, according to the paper.
