Westfield signs Stratford deal

Developer Westfield has secured agreements with various public sector bodies that pave the way for its Stratford City scheme in East London.

The agreements cover the provision of land, development rights and infrastructure for the £1.5 billion scheme. Westfield chairman Frank Lowy briefed prime minister Gordon Brown on the scheme at Downing Street today.

Westfield's proposed development, which is due to open in 2011 in time for the nearby Olympic Games, totals 1.9 million sq ft of retail space. John Lewis, Marks & Spencer and Waitrose are to anchor the scheme.
